SIGMA NEWS : SEPTEMBER 2005

TEN YEARS OF SIGMA CHAPTER

It has been 10 years since the establishment of Sigma Chapter. Since then, we've accomplished a lot. We've inducted new hermanos, we've established community service programs, we've raised money for scholarships, we've traveled the world, we've pursued advanced degrees, we've married, and we've brought children into the world.

WHERE IS HERMANO _____?

This section of the Sigma News update covers the whereabouts of a particular Hermano. This edition's section covers Hermanos Pablo Morales and Roberto "Tito" Soto-Carrion.

Hermano Pablo is finishing up his master's degree in journalism at New York University. His thesis, tentatively titled "Scrambling for Cuba," is an account of American business interests intent on lifting the trade embargo. The "NACLA Report on the Americas" will publish an excerpt in its upcoming November-December issue. Hermano Pablo has meanwhile been making a living as a freelance copyeditor at various magazines, including GQ, Playboy, the Village Voice, and Rolling Stone. He hopes to secure a full-time editorial position within the next year.

Hermano Tito is in his Junior year at Wesleyan. He recently completed the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship summer program and was awarded a grant to conduct research for his senior thesis while studying at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras during his fall semester. Tito will spend his spring semester in Bahia, Brazil. Upon graduating from Wesleyan, Tito plans to attend graduate school and work with youth in education and the non-profit field.
